The new Asian Scholarship winners were honored at a luncheon, 11:00 a.m. - 1 p.m., May 31 at the Ping's Mandarin Restaurant, 817 W. Francisco Blvd., San Rafael. Over 60 participants were on hand to celebrate with the scholarship winners and their parents and supporters. Scholarship winners are Ankoor Patel, Danielle Faulkner, Adil Modan, Austin Tran, Thu Dam, Dean Zucconi, Mia Klenk, Linh Huynh, Manish Patel. These scholarship recipients are needy and truly outstanding students from Marin, Sonoma, and Napa counties. Individually, each has earned numerous academic and community service awards in high school; collectively they are the finest high school seniors of our community.
If a high school senior (heading for college in Fall, 2016) is interested in applying for an Asian Scholarship next year, please see the website at 10,000 Degrees and go to Asian Scholarship Fund. If you are interested in donating to or serving on the ASF board, please email Jean Bee Chan at firstname.lastname@example.org. You will find it's very rewarding to sere on the board because it is satisfying to give awards to deserving students.
Dear Members, Families and Friends;
Once again, I write this newsletter note in the afterglow of a fantastic Chinese New Year celebration dinner at San Rafael Community Center. It was a showcase of our diverse, compassionate community. This year's celebration of the Goat/Sheep/Ram was brought to life with a delicious dinner provided by Yet Wah, an impressive martial arts performance by 10,000 Victories of Fairfax, a stirring classical performance by prodigy cellist Ricki Wu, and the Chinese Dance School of SF with a remarkable display of costume, choreography, culture and heart. Our board member David Wong was the emcee, and did a great job of keeping us informed and laughing. But perhaps the best performance of all was the generosity of everyone who helped produce the event - with a team headed by star board
member Kim Luu, and those donated to our Education Fund. Thanks to those who donated and bid on silent auction items, and those who bought raffle tickets, the Asian Scholarship Fund* and our May Lee Scholarship generated enough seed fund money for next year's awards. Not to mention: Another board member, Yee Coleiro, won this year's grand prize $500 from the raffle. It was her birthday the next day! Great luck to start the New Year.
